Supporting Businesses in Essex

The best in all areas of local government in the UK were recognised at the LGC Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, on March 24, 2010.

The LGC Awards reward the very best in local government and recognise the excellent service they deliver to the communities they serve. The awards brought together over 1,200 industry leaders to celebrate the most innovative and imaginative councils in the UK.

Essex County Council’s pioneering Banking on Essex initiative was recognised within the ‘Innovation’ category, where the municipal banking facility for local small and medium sized businesses made it through the finals.

Peter Martin, Leader of Essex County Council said:

“I am delighted to see that the effort Essex County Council is undertaking to assist local businesses is being recognised. Our aim has always been to deliver invaluable assistance to businesses in our county.

By thinking innovatively, we can ensure that local businesses get the support they need and in turn, see our local economy flourish.

Essex County Council is proud to be leading the way on groundbreaking initiatives such as Banking on Essex.”

Congratulations must also go to Legal Services at Essex County Council, who won the LGC ‘Legal’ Award. The team played a crucial role in setting up the Banking on Essex initiative.
