About Banking on Essex

Using the Wellbeing provisions under the Local Government Act (2000), the Banking on Essex initiative was launched in June 2009. This enables Essex County Council to utilise its cash reserves to lend to small and medium sized businesses in the County, and by extension, keep people in jobs, and support business growth in spite of the well-documented credit crunch and broader financial crisis.

Banking on Essex is a lending framework providing secured or unsecured loans of up to £100,000 over periods of up to 5 years and overdraft facilities of up to £100,000 to eligible businesses in Essex. The unique lending model is delivered in association with Santander Corporate Banking, part of the Santander Group, one of the world's safest banks.

Our unique model provides a range of broader support services for businesses, including business planning and guidance to other sources of finance, which are now available through our business partners Colbea and Business Link.
